ERDF Project Consultancy brief: General Manager
Background
Capital Accelerator Programme is a Mayor of London ERDF funded initiative led and managed by Capital Enterprise and UCL Advances that aims to provide additional new resources, expertise and know-how to both expand and enhance the provision of business support available in London to potential scalable and investable businesses in the Digital, Science and Technology sectors.
Starting in January 2014 and running until September 2015 this programme aims to help 626 London based SMEs with high growth potential to receive intensive advice and practical support that will enable at least 160 of them to raise collectively over £9.5m of investment funding from business angels and early stage venture capitalist and thereby enable these SME’s to create a minimum 284 new jobs in London.
To deliver a programme of interventions and activities the CAP has assembled a partnership comprising of the leading players in London that support early stage entrepreneurs in the Digital, Science and Technology sectors, this includes Playhubs.
playhubs is a co-working space for the games industry and an incubator for early stage games startups, located within Somerset House in the heart of London.
It is a not-for-profit organisation co-founded by David Gardner, David Lau-Kee, Paul Heydon, and Chris Lee. It supports teams through mentorship, masterclasses, introductions to investors and by building a community of forward-thinking industry professionals.
Contract Information
This contract will be procured and managed by Capital Enterprise
Capital Enterprise is the membership body for deliverers of enterprise support services in London. It facilitates entrepreneurship via its 60+ (current) member organisations and through the development of new and innovative pan-London programmes.
Capital Enterprise is seeking a General Manager to work with and support Playhubs SMEs and community.
Applicant Description
You should be able to demonstrate an interest in technology, startups, entrepreneurship, venture capital, and the like.
The ideal candidate will either have several years of experience in the games sector, or if not then lives and breathes the games space, and so have a deep understanding of the games ecosystem. They should know of the players, have an ear to the ground and love games. In addition, this person will possess an impressive intellect, with strong networking, deep analytical skills and a superb work ethic, coupled with an ability to offer well-defended opinions
You should be willing to commit to the equivalent of a full time position for the whole four months and available days, evenings, or basically whenever needed. Schedule is flexible but a strong commitment is expected. Applicants should be able to jump in and complete any task quickly and effectively.
Tasks and responsibilities
Tasks will include assisting with the day-to-day operations of the playhub programme of events, mentorship, masterclasses, introductions to investor, and engaging with and assisting playhubs SMEs in any areas of need.
You will be responsible for:
– Managing all marketing and sales activities for memberships, sponsorship and events
– Building desired SME occupancy levels
– Building on the culture of co-operative, participatory, collaborative and mutually supporting
– Establishing and maintaining relationships across the game community (our SMEs) and corporates
– Working with the Founders of playhubs to maximize opportunities and benefits for our SMEs
– Hiring & Managing a small team of interns
